Novice Trick Dog Title!

Yesterday I filmed a video of Rumple doing the tricks he needs for his Novice Trick Dog Title. I submitted the video and he passed! Now I have to send off for her certificate.

Puppy Foundation Assessment

This evening Rumpelstiltskin passed his Puppy Foundation Assessment! He’s so good there, especially considering he started the course 3 weeks late and I haven’t had him a month yet! Clever boy!

Skateboarding!

Yesterday I decided to get the skateboard out to see what Rumple made of it. I didn’t expect him to do it, it took Millie months to get, but thought he might take to it more if he’s exposed to it while he’s young.

He went to it straight away and with a little encouragement stood on it! I praised him for this and moved the board. He didn’t mind me dragging him across the room on it! When he got off, I encouraged him back on and he offered 3 paws on the skateboard. This is exactly what I want to rewarded him for it. We kept repeating this and then I started to move it slightly. When he moved his leg and out it back on the ground, I rewarded him. This is difficult as it’s easier for him to Out his paw on the skateboard with the other. It didn’t take long for him to grasp though and this was where we were when we finished the session yesterday! https://youtu.be/x7-Z-KWjfaQ I can’t believe how well he took to it!

Training Rumple

Rumple’s kept me busy so I haven’t been able to keep his blog up to date!!

On Monday I took him puppy training. He wasn’t bad considering he’d never worked in that environment before. He was about the same level as the rest despite missing a couple of sessions. I’m taking him for the socialisation as much as the training, but he was actually quite good!

I’ve been doing lots of training with him at home too. Primarily we’ve been working on ‘stay’, ‘wait’ recall and a few tricks (over a little jump, through the hoop, through the tunnel and round a pole). He’s picked lots of thing up quite quickly, though needs lots of practise! Will add YouTube links once videos are uploaded.

One thing he hasn’t learnt is how not to pester big sister Millie. He’s also had an argument with big brother Joe, and now Joe can’t stand the sight of him! We’re working on it and they’re happy going for walks together, it’s just indoors.

Behavioural things that need to be worked on at the moment are not attacking the hoover, and increasing confidence around bikes and strangers, particularly men.

First trip to the tennis field!

On Monday I took Millie and Rumple to the tennis field. I let Millie run and put Rumple on a long line. This way he could still play but was safe and was a good way to practise his recall.

At first neither of them would leave my side! I got Millie to run and play and Rumple followed her. He was quite good at coming back and enjoyed the freedom. I plan on taking them there again soon!

Sunday 5th November - First Whole Day!

On Sunday I continued to let Rumple settle in a bit more. I did a little training with him and got him to sit and lie down. It’s a start!! He’s been enjoying exploring on his walks and loves snuggles!

Meet Rumple!

Rumple is a 5 month old Romanian rescue puppy. I collected him on Saturday 4th from a kennels I’m Horsham.

Collecting Rumple

When I got back, I parked by the Worth Way and Millie came to meet him and go for a walk to try and get them getting on with each other. This is how and where Millie normally learns to accept other dogs. This worked really well, and although they’re not best friends, they tolerate each other!

Rumples first walk

At home, I let them both run in th back garden and then in the house. Rumple settled in really well. He’s such a sweetie, a really lovely boy!
